Empowering Music Education for All Ages
I offer personalized Singing and Composition lessons tailored to students of all ages and skill levels. I believe that music has the power to inspire, heal, and transform. My teaching is grounded in the Western Classical tradition, providing a strong technical and artistic foundation—whether or not you aim to pursue classical singing or composition.
I believe in adapting my approach to each student, taking into account their unique strengths, goals, and learning pace. Lessons are designed to be engaging and supportive, creating an environment where students can develop both skill and self-expression at their own pace.
Music fosters creativity, nurtures emotional well-being, and enhances cognitive abilities. Students are encouraged to go beyond mastering notes and techniques, exploring their personal artistic voice while developing discipline, perseverance, and a lifelong connection to music. I integrate modern tools and resources to enrich the learning experience and inspire students to engage with music in innovative ways.
My goal is to help students develop both their technical skills and artistic identity, empowering them to become confident, creative musicians.
"Where words fail, music speaks."

Discover your musical potential with tailored voice and composition lessons for all ages and levels.
Singing Lessons
I offer voice lessons for students of all levels, from beginners to advanced singers. Lessons focus on building awareness of the voice as an instrument and learning how to develop its full potential in a healthy way. This includes:
Breath support and control
Resonance and tone production
Diction and articulation
Expanding vocal range and agility
Interpretation and musical expression
While the emphasis is on classical, crossover, and musical theatre styles, students will gain a strong technical foundation that can support various genres.
Integrated Music Theory & Piano Proficiency training for Voice Students
Understanding music theory is essential for singers, and I incorporate it as needed to support their vocal development. This include things such as:
Sight-singing and ear training
Rhythm exercises
Score reading and interpretation
Harmonic analysis to understand how melodies and harmonies interact
Basic piano proficiency is also integrated into lessons to help singers develop musical independence. The approach will be discussed individually with each student to accommodate their needs and learning goals.
Free Consultation: A free consultation is available for all students to discuss their goals and determine the best approach for their learning journey. For those preparing for recitals and auditions, a consultation will also help assess if my teaching is the right fit for their specific needs.

Composition Lessons
Composition lessons are open to students of all levels, including beginners. Training in Western classical music theory is integrated into lessons, covering essential aspects such as melody, harmony, counterpoint, orchestration, and form.
The primary focus is on helping students develop their unique compositional style, rather than strictly adhering to traditional techniques.
Lessons will include training in using a notation software and may also incorporate digital audio workstations (DAWs) as needed.
The approach to lessons is flexible—some students may focus on their own compositions, while others may benefit from structured exercises to build specific skills.
There is no fixed style or genre requirement; students can explore different traditions and approaches based on their interests.
As part of composition training, basic piano proficiency will be incorporated into lessons based on each student's needs. This will be discussed individually to determine the best way to integrate it into their lessons.
A free consultation is available to discuss students' goals and find the best approach for their learning.
Music Theory Lessons
Music theory lessons are open to anyone looking to develop a deeper understanding of musical structure, whether for personal enrichment or exam preparation. Lessons cover the principles of harmony, counterpoint, form, and analysis with an approach tailored to each student's goals.
For students preparing for formal exams, instruction is available for:
RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music) Theory Exams
AP Music Theory
Other standardized music theory assessments
The curriculum is flexible and adapts to each student’s background and aspirations.
About me
I’m Sri, founder of musictutor.ca. When I’m not composing or preparing for an upcoming concert or teaching I’m busy working for the Musicians' Union and serving on the board of local arts ensembles here in Vancouver.
My background is in classical voice and composition, which shapes my approach as both a performer and educator. Singing with choirs, performing opera roles, singing in recitals, and collaborating with ensembles deepened my belief in music’s ability to transcend boundaries and connect us through the shared human experience.
As an educator, I bring this perspective to my teaching, helping students develop their technical skills while fostering creativity and self-expression. My teaching philosophy centers on nurturing the unique potential of each student, encouraging both technical mastery and emotional expression through music. Whether guiding a singer in finding their voice or mentoring a composer in shaping their ideas, my goal is to create a learning space that nurtures both musicality and artistic identity.
